Our curriculum makes a difference

The curriculum is currently in its final year of a randomized controlled trial of 9th grade classes in 3 rural, predominantly Hispanic school districts on & near the Texas-Mexico border.

Preliminary Findings

Pre- and post-participation surveys from the first year of implementation of the program are encouraging.

Nearly all students indicated that they liked the program.
Students in Big Decisions were more likely to report
talking with their parents about sexual health topics.

They were also more likely to intend to use birth control and condoms.

Feedback from Teachers

I love the beginning and the end of Big Decisions. At first, the students are skeptical about the program and think the worst. After a couple of lessons, they start to appreciate it. At the end, they are sorry it is not continuing longer.
